About

Karin Goodman is a Melbourne-based couture milliner who creates handmade women’s hats and headpieces perfect for the races, weddings and special events, but has also made men’s hats. Karin’s one-off designs combine wearability and superior quality with beauty, elegance and style.

Karin began her “creative career” as a child, making bejeweled paper crowns and diadems  with her mother, an artist, then learning beading, embroidery and lace-making whilst in school. However, she did not indulge her dreams until long after completing a degree in archaeology and languages from Melbourne University.

How To Purchase/Order a Custom Design

millinery by karin handmade competition pieces
If you have an enquiry about a hat or headpiece from our Instagram, Facebook and website ( you may purchase from our collection), or a bespoke custom commission, please contact us via email. If you would like to have headwear designed exclusively for you, we will refine your ideas and create a unique design to complement your personality and outfit, but we will never copy another designer’s work.

Upon reaching agreement on a design we require a 50% non-refundable deposit to begin work on your hat. You will receive progress reports and photos of your hat and, if local, one fitting prior to completion and pick up. Otherwise, we will send you your hat upon approval and payment of the balance and shipping costs.

Payment is via direct bank deposit and postage will be calculated individually for each piece.  The milliner bears no responsibility for delays due to post or customs or for customs or import duties. Processing times vary with every order. A handmade hat may take from two to several weeks to complete so please book early to avoid disappointment.
There are no refunds, returns or exchanges. We don’t accept cancellations but will gladly discuss any problem with your order. Please email us immediately upon receipt in the unlikely case of any manufacturing faults. Buyers are responsible for return postage costs.

We accept no responsibility for any damage due to headwear being mishandled by the client but will be happy to undertake repairs which will be charged to the client. Please treat your millinery with care as it is a delicate luxury item so please strictly avoid exposure to rain, prolonged direct sunlight, moisture, hairsprays, perfume, and makeup which may damage your hat’s shape, colour or finish, or cause staining.
